Home Building:

Few things are more rewarding than learning and mastering a skill for the first time.  We at Highlands County Habitat for Humanity have the resources and people to teach just about anyone to help construct a home.  You can share in the experience of building a home using the latest building systems available.  See link regarding SIP construction, pouring a foundation, framing a house, installing drywall, painting a home or landscaping.  Whatever your current level of skill is there is a place for you on our team!  We have an orientation program that will prepare you for your first day on the home site so that you will be prepared and safe.  Please click on our Calendar link to see what projects we have scheduled for your volunteer time.  Working side by side with our families and fellow volunteers ….

If you are interested in bringing a group of people to share in the building experience please contact our office at 863-385-7156.

There is no need to make a reservation for less than 5 volunteers, just come on out ready to work. If you would like to bring a group of 10 or more volunteers, please call our office at least two weeks in advance to schedule a build day.

Home Owner Support Team:

Instructors and facilitators are needed for our Homeowner Support Team (HOST).  HOST develops and conducts a series of classes that are required for partner families as part of the sweat equity process.  Classes include After the Home Purchase, Home Maintenance & HOA Compliance, Parenting I & II, Family Education, Budgeting, Citizenship, and English Classes.

HOST also works as a support to our five homeowner’s associations.  Anyone wishing to work closely with families as they travel the road to homeownership will be a great asset to HOST.

Habitat’s family selection volunteers have the opportunity to assist potential partner families in achieving their dream of homeownership. After undergoing an extensive application process, qualifying families will be visited in their current living conditions from members of the selection committee.

Family Support members help assess housing needs, ability to repay and willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity.  They act as an advocate for families at the monthly selection committee meetings, presenting the current cost-burdening, over-crowded, and substandard living space and the passionate desire of each applicant family to have a simple, decent place to live.  Volunteering will change your heart as you become involved with families working to build a better future.
