Highlands County Habitat for Humanity has different financing options available. Currently, we are partnering with USDA Rural Development to offer an attractive home ownership program. To qualify for our current USDA home ownership program, you will need to meet the following criteria in addition to meeting various criteria required by Highlands County Habitat for Humanity:

 

  • Fill out a pre-qualification form for homeownership in our office
  • Provide income verification, to include 4 most recent pay stubs OR proof of unearned income (SSI, SSA, AFDC, VA benefits) OR proof of court ordered income (Child Support, Alimony, etc.)
  • 640 credit score
  • Collections paid off or payment plan in place
  • Alternative credit history for past 12 months
  • Loan application and sales Contract
  • Must pay escrow down payment
  • Must pay credit report fee of $32
  • Copy of Social Security Cards for all household members
  • Copy of picture ID's
  • Copy of 3 most recent bank statements for all accounts
  • Must provide previous 2 years' tax returns
  • Must pay $1200 escrow payment
  • Must be a United States citizen or have Permanent Residency Card
  • Must supply reference letters
  • Must attend a 1st time homebuyer training course
  • Subject to Family Selection Committee Approval
  • Fulfill sweat equity requirement

To qualify for our traditional Habitat for Humanity homeownership program, you will need to meet the following criteria:

     
  • Be a US citizen or have a Permanent Residency Card
  • Proof of earned and/or unearned income
  • Must attend 1st time homebuyer education training
  • Copy of birth certificates and social security cards for everyone living in household
  • Copy of report cards for all school aged children living in household
  • Current landlord's contact information
  • Credit check
  • Criminal background check
  • Property investigation and home visit
  • Interview by Habitat's Family Selection Committee
  • Completion of required sweat equity hours
